Knotty Alder

Alder is a pretty soft hardwood. It offers more durability than pine or cedar but doesn’t have the durability of white or red oak. Alder is an easy wood to work with for that reason; less wear on your blades and sanding discs.

Hardness

Alder is a soft to medium density hardwood that can be a bit tricky to stain. Its natural color variation presents several challenges for providing that even stained wood look. Tends to blotch. Its natural colors present themselves very nicely with a standard clear coat finish.
