Red Elm
Hardness
Red Elm is a medium hardwood. It offers more durability than pine or cedar but doesn’t have the durability of white or red oak. Red elm is a moderate wood to work with; can tear out on planer but is fairly easy to sand out imperfections.
Red elm is a medium density hardwood that can be stained. Its natural color provides even surfaces to stain but can be challenging with its grain pattern. Offers ease of use with glue lines and hides imperfections well. Its natural colors present themselves very nicely with a standard clear coat finish for those after an even tone lumber.
