Knotty Hickory

Hickory is a pretty tough hardwood. It offers more durability than walnut and is similar to the hardness of white or red oak. Hickory is can be tough on blades and knives and requires a bit of sanding after machining to achieve the best results.

Hardness

Hickory is a high density hardwood that can be stained but has very high natural character. Hickory has great color variation which can present challenges for providing that even stained wood look. Its natural colors present themselves very nicely with a standard clear coat finish.

Hickory is commonly used in indoor projects. Some examples of indoor uses include

  • Furniture
