Poplar

Poplar is a medium density domestic hardwood. It offers greater durability than pine but less than white or red oak. It’s a great hardwood to work with because it offers great machinability and it’s quick to sand. Poplar offers okay durability for its price if used for painted cabinetry or trim.

Poplar is not a great lumber to stain. It has a lot of natural dull yellow and green variation within each board. The green heartwood can provide a hassle to achieve the desired color. It’s used mostly for painting over.
